Protests and Civil Disobedience In Austin, Texas
to Stop Gary Graham's Execution

The following images were taken on June 19, 2000 in Austin Texas where a press conference was held at the State Capitol Building, followed by a march and rally at the Governor's Mansion, where George W. Bush resided at the time. In an act of civil disobedience, death penalty opponents blocked the entrance to Bush's home and were soon arrested.
Gary Graham (also known as Shaka Sankofa), was a juvenile offender on death row (17 at the time of his alleged crime) who drew international attention because of pleas of innocence. Three days later, he was executed in Huntsville, Texas. Also view the photos from the protests during the execution in Huntsville three days later.
