Opppsing the Federal Death Penalty

The following images were taken of various anti-death penalty demonstrations in Boston to voice public opposition to the federal death penalty. Demonstrations include opposition to the executions of Timothy McVeigh and Juan Garza in May/June of 2001, and the death sentencing of Gary Sampson September 2003 through January 2004.

This series of 9 photos were taken in June 2001 at an Amnesty International demonstration to oppose the federal execution of Juan Garza. Activists wore black hoods and a sign to indicate the race of the 20+ federal prisoners sentenced to death. Over 80% were minorities at the time.





















This next series of 11 photos are from the vigils in Boston to oppose the federal prosecution and death sentencing of Gary Sampson in Massachusetts. All images are from September 18, 2003 & January 29, 2004.

























These next 6 photos were taken May 15, 2001 at an Amnesty International demonstration to oppose the scheduled federal executions of Timothy McVeigh and Juan Garza.
