At 2:00 a.m. on March 17, St. Patrick's Day 2006, the State of North Carolina executed Patrick Moody. On March 16, the day before, a vigil was held outside of Governor Mike Easley's office at the state capitol building in an appeal for clemency. Easley denied clemency and the execution went forward 14 hours later.
