Scott Langley is a free-lance photojournalist and political community organizer, currently based in Boston, Massachusetts. From 1996-2000, he was a Texas press photographer for various media outlets in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and most recently was an independent photojournaist in North Carolina from 2004-2007.

Scott Langley’s photography work has been wide spread throughout the world in recent years. Scott’s work has appeared in the Boston Globe, on the Associated Press wire, the Reuters wire, CNN.com, ABC.com, the Washington Post, Essence Magazine, Amnesty International publications, and much more.

Since 2005, his death penalty documentary project has been exhibited by Amnesty International in Germany, Denmark, at Harvard University in Massachusetts, Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Raleigh, North Carolina and in Washington DC. Additionally, Scott travels around the country showing his photos and giving talks about the death penalty.

In addition to news print media, Scott’s work has appeared in magazines, books, almanacs, theater productions, documentary movies, TV commercials, on t-shirts, and in calendars.

More about his work against the death penalty:

Scott has been an active grassroots organizer against the death penalty since 1999. Since September 2004, Scott has served as an Amnesty International USA State Death Penalty Abolition Coordinator for North Carolina and now Massachusetts. Prior to Raleigh, Scott was organizing death penalty abolition work in the Boston area for three years as an Amnesty International death penalty local coordinator.

In Massachusetts and North Carolina, he has had experience working against the federal death penalty, organizing for statewide moratoriums, testifying before state legislatures, organizing rallies and vigils, participating in nonviolent direct action resistance, and speaking at churches and on high school and college campuses.

In 2004, Scott and his wife established a hospitality house in the Catholic Worker tradition near the death row of North Carolina. The home continues to serve as a center of logistical and emotional support for families of death row prisoners while acting as an intentional community of resistance against the death penalty.

Scott currently works on an international level to end executions and to educate people about the death penalty, traveling within and outside the U.S. to speak about capital punishment, his work against executions, his work with death row families, and about his photography documentary project.
